FAQs
Curious about the process, the prints, or anything else? Take a look below. If your question isn't here, just send me a message and I'll get back to you.
The cyanotype process
What is a cyanotype?
Cyanotype is a photographic printing process dating back to the 1840s. It uses UV light and iron-based chemicals to create prints with that distinctive deep Prussian blue. No darkroom needed — just sunlight and a little patience.
How are your prints made?
Each piece is made by hand using natural and botanical subjects — flowers, leaves, feathers and other found materials — placed directly onto light-sensitive paper or fabric and exposed to sunlight. Every print is unique; even two made from the same arrangement will come out slightly differently.
Are the prints one of a kind?
The originals are completely unique — once it's gone, it's gone. Some designs are available as limited edition prints, but I keep editions small so each one still feels special.
Do you use any chemicals I should be worried about?
The process uses iron salts rather than the harsh chemicals associated with traditional darkroom photography. Once fixed and dried, the prints are perfectly safe to handle and display.
Ordering & payment
How do I place an order?
Just add what you'd like to your basket and checkout through the shop. It's straightforward, and you'll get a confirmation email once your order is placed.
What payment methods do you accept?
I accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as PayPal and Apple Pay at checkout.
Can I cancel or change my order?
If you need to make a change, get in touch as soon as possible and I'll do my best to help. Once an order has been dispatched I'm unable to make amendments, but I'll always try to find a solution.
Shipping & delivery
Where do you ship to?
I currently ship within the UK, with international shipping available to selected countries. If you're not sure whether I can reach you, just drop me a message.
How long will my order take to arrive?
Most orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days. UK delivery typically takes 2–3 days after that. You'll receive a notification once your order is on its way.
How are the prints packaged?
Everything is packaged carefully to arrive in perfect condition — prints are wrapped and backed with board, and sent in rigid mailers so they don't get bent in transit.
What if my order arrives damaged?
That's the last thing I want. If anything arrives damaged, please take a photo and get in touch within 48 hours and I'll sort it out for you.
Care & framing
How should I care for my cyanotype?
Keep your print out of direct sunlight to preserve the colour over time — a little indirect light is fine, but prolonged UV exposure will cause fading. Avoid damp environments too.
Do the prints come framed?
Prints are sold unframed unless otherwise stated, so you can choose a frame that suits your space. I'm happy to advise on sizing if you need a hand.
What size frames do I need?
All print sizes are listed in the shop. Most fit standard off-the-shelf frame sizes, but if you're unsure just ask — I'll always let you know the exact dimensions.
Custom & commission work
Can I commission a piece?
Yes! I love working on commissions. Whether you have something specific in mind or just a loose idea, get in touch and we can chat through what's possible.
How does the commission process work?
We'll start with a conversation about what you're looking for — subject, size, colours, how it'll be displayed. I'll then put together a proposal and, once you're happy, get to work. I'll keep you updated along the way.
How long does a commission take?
It depends on the complexity, but most commissions are completed within 2–4 weeks. I'll give you a more specific timeframe when we discuss your project.
Do you do wedding or event commissions?
Absolutely — cyanotypes make beautiful, meaningful gifts and keepsakes. If you're thinking about something for a wedding, anniversary, or special occasion, get in touch as early as you can so we can plan ahead.
